Volunteer

At Every Last One, our volunteer community is the heart and soul of our organization! We are a diverse group of passionate individuals united by our love for animals and our commitment to making a difference in their lives and our local community.

Ways to Get Involved

Fostering, assisting with adoptions, fundraising, events, marketing, design, dog transport drivers or behind the scenes work that goes into rescuing dogs in need and finding them forever homes - there is a place for you here.

ELO provides consistent communication and support to our volunteers every step of the way. We understand the success of our mission is only accomplished by the advocacy of our dogs and strong relationships and partnerships with our volunteers.

Current Opportunities

Every Last One Rescue is powered by volunteers. As a foster-based, NYC-centered rescue, everything we do – from lifesaving transport and medical care to adoption events and fundraising – is made possible by a dedicated community of people who show up in big and small ways. Our volunteer opportunities are impactful, hands-on, and rooted in collaboration, compassion, and a shared commitment to giving every last one the chance they deserve.

  • Adoption events are where dogs meet their future families - and Volunteer Event Managers help make those moments possible. This role supports the planning and execution of Every Last One Rescue adoption events across NYC, ensuring a positive, organized experience for dogs, volunteers, and adopters alike.

This is a co-manager role, meaning you’ll partner with another Event Manager to share responsibilities, provide coverage, and support one another on event days.

Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per month (primarily weekends)

    Requirements

    • Local to NYC

    • Availability for weekend events (required)

    • Comfortable lifting and moving event supplies (crates, signage, tables, etc.)

    • Friendly, approachable, and punctual

    • Comfortable around dogs of all sizes

    • Reliable and communicative

    Key Responsibilities

    • Co-manage adoption events alongside a fellow Event Manager

    • Assist with event setup and breakdown

    • Help coordinate volunteers, fosters, and transport on event days

    • Ensure dogs are safely set up, comfortable, and well supervised

    • Serve as a welcoming point of contact for potential adopters and the public

    • Communicate event feedback and follow-ups with the Volunteer Program Manager

Impact: Well-run events lead to more meaningful connections—and more dogs finding homes.

  • At Every Last One Rescue, our dogs rely on a village to get where they need to go - from shelter partners to foster homes, vet appointments, training sessions, and adoption events. Volunteer Dog Transport Drivers make our foster-based rescue possible by helping dogs safely move through each step of their journey.

This role is ideal for dog-loving humans in or near NYC who have access to a car, flexible availability, and want to make a direct, hands-on impact with just a few hours of their time.

Time Commitment: 1–5 hours per week (varies by need; some requests may be short-notice)

    Requirements

    • Must be at least 18 years of age

    • Access to a reliable vehicle

    • Valid driver’s license

    • Proof of current registration, inspection, and insurance

    • Flexible availability, including occasional short-notice requests

    • Reliable, responsive, and punctual

    • Comfortable handling dogs of all sizes and temperaments

    • Must love dogs 🐾

    Key Responsibilities

    • Safely transport ELO dogs to and from foster homes, vet appointments, training sessions, and adoption events

    • Ensure each dog travels comfortably, securely, and arrives on time

    • Communicate clearly with staff, fosters, and fellow volunteers around timing and logistics

    • Step in when a foster cannot transport, or help connect them with another approved driver

    • Represent Every Last One Rescue with kindness, professionalism, and positivity

    • Share availability regularly to help coordinate transport needs

Impact: Sometimes a single car ride is the difference between a dog staying stuck or starting their next chapter.

  • Behind every rescue dog is funding that makes lifesaving care possible. Volunteer Fundraising Consultants help Every Last One Rescue sustain and grow our impact by identifying and securing funding opportunities that support our dogs, fosters, and programs.

This role is ideal for someone with experience in grant writing or fundraising who wants to contribute their skills in a flexible, high-impact, behind-the-scenes way.

Time Commitment: Flexible; approximately 5–10 hours per month

    Requirements

    • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, or nonprofit development

    • Strong writing, research, and editing skills

    • Self-motivated and highly detail-oriented

    • Comfortable working independently and managing deadlines

    • Ability to commit to submitting 2–3 grants per month or maintaining ongoing grant research and outreach

    • Passion for animal welfare and ELO’s mission

    Key Responsibilities

    • Research and identify grant and funding opportunities aligned with ELO’s mission

    • Own the end-to-end grant process, including outreach, writing, and submission

    • Draft compelling narratives and supporting materials as required

    • Track deadlines, requirements, and submission statuses

    • Collaborate with leadership to gather program details, financials, and impact metrics

    • Help build and maintain a sustainable funding pipeline

Impact: One successful grant can fund medical care, training, and support for dozens of dogs.
